It must be real.
First poster view of ‘Payback Season’ on the tube just now
Payback Season, a movie written by Danny Donnelly and Jenny Fitpatrick and will hit our cinema screens on March 9th. Filmed in Millwall Football Club and locations in London, Payback Season approaches the spectators through a story of football and power, which will be ruined by one of the harsher problems in the capital: gang-crime.
The star is Adam Deacon, the recent BAFTA-Orange Rising Star award winner David Ajala (The Dark Knight, Hamlet, Adulthood), Nichola Burley (Streetdance, Donkey Punch, Wuthering Heigths) and the football legend Sir Geoff Hurst form part of the cast. Apart from this, its thorough screenplay and its background story are the main points of this film.
Not only is the film a story of football, but also Payback Season hides one of the problems that some London boroughs face: the gang-crime. Adam Deacon plays the lead role of Jerome Davis, a young man born in East London who becomes a celebrity as a premier league footballer. Jerome seems to have everything: success, power, money, what is more, a new life far from the problems of the council estate where he was born. However, the football star will be dogged by his past, as his family still lives in his old estate. “Jerome’s dilemma is trying to balance his old life with the new life. Old friends start appearing and before you know it he’s involved in extortion
Jerome will have to choose between continuing with his successful career or taking care of his younger brother, who has been involved in gangs. Victim of blackmail, he will try to run away his old life, but the harsh reality in London will catch him again.
Payback season’ story line is a superb example of the problems that many London families face every day, with their youths involved in gangs in a fight for power. In this case, reality is stronger than fiction, as summer riots in London coincided with the movie filming.
Payback season is not just about football and not only aims to entertain but also to launch a clear message to youngsters: the dangers of being involved in a gang. An excellent example of how cinema and social reality can be together.
